On God and Religion- CS Mahadevan |
There is a lot of resemblance between the Sermon on the mount and the Sermons of Buddha. Another important point that arises from my study is that ultimately there will be a universal God and Religion as mentioned in our Upanishads. So why not we have a Universal Prayer based on a Universal Religion. |
God and Religion are oft-quoted and oft-misquoted terms. When we speak of God we think of religion and when we speak of religion, we think of God. Words and speech widely differ. |
"What is God," I asked Dr. N Mahalingam, the great industrialist and visionary, when we were hiking along the valley of Virginia. |
He said humorously: "If God were not a necessary Being of Himself, He might almost seem to be made for the use and benefit of men." |
I followed the question with another doubt: "Is God necessary?" He asked me, "Have you not heard of the statement of Voltaire who said: "If God did not exist it would be necessary to invent Him". |
