Jiva-Siva Yoga - Swami Srikantananda |
|
It was Sri Ramakrishna who, for the first time, uttered the great mantra, ‘Serve jiva as siva, while discussing the tenets of the Vaishnava religion. He said: ‘Compassion for creatures! Compassion for creatures! You fool! An insignificant worm crawling on earth, who are you to show compassion to others! Who are you to show compassion? No, it cannot be. Not compassion for others, but rather service of man, recognizing him to be the veritable manifestation of God.’ Narendranath (Swami Vivekananda) who was present there when the Master uttered those words, alone could grasp the real import of these words. With great feeling he said: ‘If it be the will of God, the day will soon come when I shall proclaim this grand truth to the world at large. I shall make it the common property of all—the wise and the fool, the rich and the poor, the Brahmin and the Pariah.’ |
