Thy Real Nature - Swami Sivananda

Om: Om is the word which will enable you to realize the Self or the Atman. Repeat it understanding its signifi-cance, and meditating on its meaning. When you chant Om with Bhava and feeling, you are going back to your Immortal, Eternal Soul. Om is your original abode of pristine purity and divine splendour. Sing Om; chant Om; live in Om.

This world is Apurna (not-full), because it is a relative plane conditioned in time, space and causation. Therefore, there is a sense of want. You are ever discontented, dissatisfied. Any number of zeros have no value. If you add one alone, there is value. Even so, sensual objects do not give lasting satisfaction. If you add the Atman, if you realize the Atman alone, you will get eternal satisfaction. Then alone will you attain Purna or fullness.

Your search for lasting happiness in this world is elusive and fruitless. Mind tempts you. You think, “If I get that object, I will be happy.” But when you actually get the object, there is no lasting satisfaction. Another object tantalizes you now. The mind jumps to another object. This play goes on forever. Search within your own Atman. Then alone you will attain eternal Bliss. Now alone will the mind rest peacefully forever.
