Sri Potuluri Veerabrahmendra Swami - Dr. G Ramesh Babu |
The moment we think of Potuluri Veerabrahmendra Swami (1608-1693 AD) , kalajnanam i.e., the knowledge of time will come to our mind. Next to Bhavishyapuranam, kalajnanam of Veerabrahmendra Swami offers a glimpse of events and trends destined to take place in the future. |
Veerabrahmendra Swami was a Hindu mystic born in 1608 AD on the banks of river Saraswati near a north Indian hamlet situated in between Kasi and Brahmandapuram. His parents were Paripurnacharyulu and Prakrithamba. A bright star appeared in the sky when Swami was born. The next day his father attained siddhi leaving Prakrithamba in deep grief. She approached a sage called Athri and handed over the boy. Eventually, she too left the world. |

Nandidurgam was a village located in Karnataka on the banks of river Pinakini where Papaghni Mutt was situated. This mutt was managed by Veerabhojayacharyulu and his wife Veerapapamamba. They had no children. When they went on a pilgrimage, Athri handed over the kid Veerabrahmendra Swami to them and asked them to adopt him as the boy was going to become a world-famous fortune teller and a great social reformer. He also told them that Veerabrahmendra Swami, who had the grace of Lord Siva, was an incarnation of Lord Vishnu Himself. |

Life at Papaghni Mutt |
The couple Veerabhojayacharulu and Veerapapamamba brought the boy to Papaghni Mutt and started calling him Veeranarayana Swami. The boy had his primary education under the tutelage of his foster father and very soon became well-versed in all the branches of knowledge. When Veera-narayana Swami was 12 years old, Veerabojayacharyulu expired. After a few months, like Adisankara, Veeranarayana Swami decided to go on a pilgrimage in order to obtain more worldly and spiritual knowledge. He convinced his foster mother and left for the tour. His philosophic talks made his mother to understand the illusory nature of attachments and the continuum of consciousness in life and death. Realizing that her adopted son was an enlightened soul, Papamamba gave him permission happily to go on a pilgrimage to holy places. |
