Sabarimalai - G Ramesh Babu |
Sabarimalai, the richest temple of Kerala dates back to 12th century. The shrine of Lord Ayyappa is located on the serene salubrious hill ranges referred to as Sabarimalai. The Lord Ayyappa is supposed to be the son of Lord Siva and Mohini, the female incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Thus, Ayyappa Swamy symbolizes to a new philosophical thought of Hari-Hara Tatvam. |
Swamy Ayyappa is one of the most revered deities in south India. He rests in the famed Sabarimalai shrine at 4,500 ft. in the western ghats of Kerala and 115 km away from Thiruvananthapuram i.e., Trivendrum. |
Sabarimalai is the richest temple of Kerala and helps the Trust run about 1,200 smaller shrines in the state. The Trust i.e. Travancore Devaswom Board employs about 4,500 people. |
There is no entry bar on caste or religion. Just beneath the Sannidhanam (Sanctum Sanctorum) is a temple devoted to Vavar, a Muslim said to be Ayyappa’s closest friend. This reflects the religious harmony between the Hindu and the Islamic Cultures. |
