Life History

Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Paramacharya Swami is supposed to be one of the greatest saints of India. He is popularly referred to as Kanchi Mahaswami. He is the 68th Acharya of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham.

Earlier, H H Jagadguru Kanchi Mahaswami was known as Swaminathan who was born on Sunday the May 20, 1894 at Villipuram, presently a small city, which is the headquarters of Villupuram District in Tamil Nadu. His parents named him Swaminathan after the presiding deity of Swamimalai, Lord Subrahmanya Swami.

Swaminathan had his early education under his father’s own tutelage until he was seven. Later, in 1905, his parents performed his Upanayanam, a Vedic ceremony for empowering a Brahmin boy to begin his Vedic studies in a traditional Gurukul. He soon joined the Arcot American Mission School at Tindivanam to complete his Second Form.
