According to Hindu legend, Rukmini is the chief wife and queen of Krishna in his city of Dwarala. Of his 16,108 queens, She is the first and most prominent and is also considered to be an avatar of Lakshmi, the goddess of fortune, een though she is an earthly birth. |

Rukmini was the daughter of the King of Vidarbha, Bhishmaka. She fell in love with Krishna, whose virtue and character sh had heard so much about. This love was returned by Krishna, for Rukmini was very virtuous and extremely beautiful. Her parents agreed to the match, but it was strongly opposed by her eldest brother, Rukmi, who managed to turn Bhishmaka's mind against the match. HE proposed the name of Shishupala, the crown prince of Chedi, as an alternative. |
