Durbhddhi - Parables of Sivananda

Durbuddhi was an atheist in the city of Gaya. He lived during the time of Lord Buddha.

Durbuddhi was a very cruel man. He tormented good people. He robbed them, terrorized them and caused fear.  He was a fierce personality.  Children and women were struck with terror at the mere mention of his name.  He was a demon in human form.

One day, Durbuddhi approached Lord Buddha when he was seated in meditation.  When Buddha opened his eyes, he saw Durbuddhi standing in front of him.

The saint greeted him; Durbuddhi abused Buddha in return. He used the most objectionable language in abusing Lord Buddha.

He said to him,  "O fool! you are in imposter.  You are a cheat.  You are a hypocrite. You are a rogue in the guise of a saint. Get away from this place.  If you come here tomorrow, I shall kill you. The city is full of beggars and imposters like you.  They have spoilt the whole country.  You are a mere idler. You are a burden on society.  You drain the resources of householders who earn their livelihood with the sweat of their brow through hard labour."
