Sri Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya was one of the staunch devotees of Lord Sri Venkateswara.  He is known as Padakavitha pithamaha.  He is beieved to have written about 32,000 kirtanas of which about 12,000 have been found.  He wrote a variety of compostions useful for the learned, lay and rustic people.  In this kirtana, he explains that even though one takes the birth of a human being, which is believed to be the most suitable birth to achieve salvation, no purpose will be served if he forgets the purpose of taking this birth as a human being.  He narrates what a man is forgetting and what he is not forgetting. He also explains how la person is derailed from the main track and what finally helps him achieve the salvation.

Meaning

Pallavi: Sri Annamayya questions, what is the use of taking birth as a human being (if he behaves the way it is explained in the charanams)? O Lord! I am anchoring myself to you. Whatever you decide about me, ( I am prepared to receive it) will be acceptable to me.

Charanam –1

I do not forget to eat; I do not forget to enjoy the transient worldly happiness.  Oh Lord! Oh Madhava! All this illusion is your creation.  But I do forget the divine wisdom, I do forget your omnipresence, I do forget my teacher, my beloved god, Oh Madhava!// What is the use of taking the birth as a human being? //

Charanam –2

I am entangled many in clutches and various attachments in this world, but at the same time I am not entangled in the path of salvation.

Oh Lord Venkateswara! You have appeared before me and have finally helped me to realize you within me.  So how can the illusion continue any longer? (In his helpless state he surrendered to the Lord and realizing the presence of Lord within himself, he recognized this truth) //  What is the use of taking the birth as a human being?//
