Mother Power and Mother Worship |
| This small book extolling the powerful ‘energy behind creation, preservation and destruction’ (Chandi) is an eclectic presentation of the infinite glory of Motherhood, The Mother Power and Mother Worship is timely. The author is justifiably concerned about the prevailing injustices and abuses suffered by women. |
| All over the country, Motherhood of God has been a part of our culture. Mystics in India have composed soul-stirring music on the divinity of Mother. Many of Shyama Sastri’s compositions are dedicated to Mother Goddess while Muthuswami Dikshithar is said to have left his body while completing his famous composition in praise of Goddess Meenakshi. |
| The book is an attempt to analyze the concept of Mother Power and Mother Worship from the time of Rig-veda to the life of Sri Ramakrishna. In fact, she has traced the course of evolution on the practice of Mother worship from the beginning of human civilization, through the period of Rig-veda, the Puranas, and the Tantras. The Mundamala Tantra quoted by the author reads, ‘Women are the Gods, they are sacred and they are ornaments of society. One should never hate, condemn, or beat them.’ Motherhood has been venerated in infinite forms in India, West, and West Asia. The face of Kali baffled western writers initially but later they understood the Hindu view of Kali as both destructive and creative. |
