True Worship - Maharaj Charan Singh |
The Lord is all-powerful and no one can oppose or change his divine will. The Lord approves of one form of worship alone, and that is devotion to the Name. Guru Amar Das says: |
Without Nam there can be no true worship; |
The whole world is in delusion1. |
By getting entangled in futile illusions, worldly people continue to roam, one lifetime after another, from one cell to another in the prison-house of transmigration. Other than union with the Name, there is no way out. Guru Nanak says: |
He who ignores the path of Nam |
And goes some other way |
Will bitterly repent his choice |
When the hour of death arrives2 |
If we do not follow the path of Nam-bhakti, devotion to the Name, but follow other paths, we are bound to repent at the time of death for foolishly wasting our time. Guru Amar Das further says: |
Without Nam |
There is no admittance |
To the Lord’s court; |
You will be harassed |
By the messengers of death3. |
Unless we practice listening to the inner music of the Name or Word, we cannot enter the kingdom of God. Those who do not follow this path will have to submit to tortures by the angels of death. Soami Ji says: |
In no uncertain words |
The Master urges you, O brother; |
To attach yourself to the unstruck melody, |
For there is no way other than that of Shabd; |
Wtihout the Shabd there is no liberation |
From the vessel of the body4. |
