This book deals with the Vishnucittiya, the commentary on the Vishnu Purana by Vishnucitta, popularly known an Engalazhvan, a celebrated disciple of Ramanuja and Kurukesa.

Among the 18 Puranas, six are listed as Sattvika Puranas, of which the Vishnu Purana occupies the pride of place. The western scholar, Wilson, asserts that this is the earliest of the Puranas.
