Harinaama Kirtanam

By Viswanath Kurup. Pub: Sri Ramakrishnashramam, Kayamkulam 690 502, Kerala, India. Pp. 189. Price: Rs.75.

Here is a lucid yet profound English translation of Ezhuttachan’s Malayalam Harinaama Kirtanam. 17th Century-Ezhuttachan was a very revered seer, a saint who wrote these sixty six stanzas of Advaita philosophy and jyana on palm leaves. They are hymns that glorify the Name of Lord Hari in its varied manifestations.

Harinaama Kirtanam brings to the common man verses for daily repetition for young and old. Nama japa, recital of the many names of God has ever been, and continues to be, the Hindu religious routine and has proved to be a source of sublime calm and quiet to still the restless mind. Harinaama Kirtanam has been passed down from generation to generation by word of mouth from the aged to the young, and from one region to another.
