Meaning: In one of his fine kritis, Saint Thyagaraja entreats the Lord Rama not to leave him and says that he has been worshipping him and the Lord has a responsibility to save him. Dandamu (also called Namaskaram) means a posture in which both hands are joined and kept on the head indicating the obedience to the other person. It is said that there are three types of postures in Namaskaram. Join both the hands and keep near the heart and say Namaskaram... This style is used to greet and equals and friends; the second posture is to join both the hands and keep on the head, touching the head ... this posture is used for parents, gurus and elders; The third one is to join both the hands and stretch them jointly fully .... This posture is used for offering prayers to the God. |

Pallavi: Oh! Lord Rama! I bow down to you! Oh! The bearer of the divine bow! (Kodanda is the name of the bow used by Lord Rama). Please see. |
Anupallavi: Oh! Lord with the great Garuda as your carrier, Oh! Lord with the Sun and the Moon as the two eyes, Oh! Lord who stays in the Kundalini (in the Yoga the energy levels of human beings are described to be situated in the six levels of the body starting from the Mooladhaara to Sahasraaraka Chakraas), Oh! the Lord of the entire Universe.....// I bow down to you. |
Charanam : Why do I worship You? Is it for getting name and recognition that I worshipped you. The subjects in the entire town and those in my street are not the same for you (meaning we are only your beloved ones). Do not ignore us, give us the benefit of your hand-holding. Oh! the Lord praised by Thyagaraja..... // I bow down to you.... |
