Meaning: We present this kriti of Thyagaraja in the auspicious month of Sivaraathri Festival. The song is in full praise of Lord Siva. Though Thyagaraja was an ardent devotee of Lord Rama, he did not differentiate between the two cults of Shaivaites and Vaishnavaites. They found the supreme lord in all the forms of God. This kriti is composed in the raga Sankarabharanam...which is also in dedication to the Lord Siva.

Pallavi: Oh Lord Siva! Sambho! Oh Sankara! Oh The Lotus eyed God!

Anupallavi: Oh The bearer of this universe! Oh! The god wears the best ornaments, the god whose feet are worshipped by the other gods.

Charanam 1 : Oh the God praised by all the Vedas, the God who is endeared by Parvathi, the daughter of the Himalaya.

Charanam 2: Oh the Destroyer of Yama, the one with Divine Feet and the embodiment of mercy.
Charanam 3 : Oh the God for whom dancing itself is the ornament, the one who speaks the words that soothe, the one who has the fascinating deer in his hand.
Charanam 4 : The Lord who shatters the ego of the people who fight among themselves in the name of religion.
Charanam 5: The one who teaches all the sages, Oh the Benevolent and the God who is the protector of Thyagaraja.
