Mental Purity- HH Sri Chandrasekhara Bharati (Translated into English by A R Natarajan) |

The all loving Iswara has out of his compassion provided the necessary guidance for our welfare in the Vedas and by emphasizing the need for a guru. Even so we are still unable to observe it. Let us examine the reasons for it. |
We all desire happiness and wish to avoid sorrow. Despite this the desired result is not found in our lives. It has been pointed out that if the means adopted are correct the results must follow. Sometimes even though we may be following the right track the result may not be there. Then one has to examine the obstructions and remove them. The cause must be traced to the existence of certain qualities in the mind which prevent the benefit that flows from hearing the truth set out in the scriptures. |
In order to remove such blemishes one should examine the way one is performing action. If one performs action with desire for enjoying its fruits the result would be the strengthening of one’s tendencies and not purification of the mind. Just as a river in which water is continuously flowing will not dry up, so too there would no end to the action cycle as long as one is engaged in thoughts and action with desire. |
