Brahma- Sutapa Patnaik

Om Namo Rajo Jushei Sristau; Sthitou Sattwa Mayayacha;
Tamo Mayaya Sam-harinei; Vishwarupaya Vedhasei:
Om Brahmanyei Namaha

(Om is the name of He who created this cosmos with its three gunas (qualities of nature: Positive, negative and quiescent), who brought all things to form, and who is universal. He is Brahma, whom I salute.)

Origin

Brahma is the name for the Creator of the entire cosmos (Brahmanda), which embodies the ethereal form of energy and consciousness.

The term "Brahma" owes its origin to the Sanskrit root word, "Brih", which means "to grow". Since "growth" is identified with dimensions beyond the limited means of human mind and intellect, the concept of "Infinity" was envisaged by the "Finite" Man as a formless, attributeless expanse. This all-pervading "Infinity" is known as "Brahman" (the Supreme Cosmic Awareness), arising from the word "Brihat", which means "the largest thing ever conceivable (by man)". By this concept, "Brahman" is not same as "Brahma"; while "Brahma" is the God of Creation, "Brahman" is the Supreme Cosmic Con-sciousness.

"Infinity" is formless because ‘form’ symbolizes limitation. Since man, with his finite human mind-intellect mechanism, could not reckon anything without a form, "Infinity" was reduced to the "finite" level of understanding; and thus originated Ishvara, the conceived form of Brahman. Soon after, a multiplicity of concepts came forth and the Unmanifest Reality unfolded into the Manifest Plurality.
