Love Alone counts in the Court of the Lord - Paltu Sahib |
Love alone counts |
In the court of the Lord, |
Love and devotion |
Are to Him most dear; |
He shares not king’s feast, |
But poor peasant’s fare. |
Austerity and prayer |
Are of little avail, |
He prefers to eat Shivry’s fruit |
To the rich fare of rishis. |
Hermits and sages |
Grace the yag of the king, |
But without the presence of Supach, |
The bell does not ring. |
Of his high caste O Paltu, |
Let none be proud; |
For love, and love alone |
Counts in the court of the Lord. |

All of us are in search of God, consciously or unconsciously, because there is no other way to obtain deliverance from the sufferings and sorrows of the endless cycle of birth and death except by being one with Him. We try to seek Him in various places and employ different methods in search of Him, each person according to his intellect and understanding. Some go to churches, some to mosques, some to temples and some make pilgrimages to holy places. Others seek Him in the solitude of jungles, mountains or caves—away from the din and noise of the world. There are those who believe that acts of charity, sacrifices and austerities will lead them to their goal. Still others resort to piety, celibacy and reading of holy books, thinking that this will bring them liberation. Different people apply different ways and means in their endeavor to attain God-realization. |
