Teachings for Everyday Life - J P Vaswani |

BEYOND THE MIND! |
Happiness or misery are creations of the mind. They do not last long, but are effervescent as a dream. The happy experiences of our childhood appear to us, today, as a dream. So, too, the difficulties and dangers through which we may have passed. The reality is known to him, who clings to the Lotus Feet of the Lord and treasures the name Divine within his heart, and gives the service of love to his fellow-men. Such a one rejoices in all that happens and ever abides in the good! |

KEEP CALM |
In all situations of life, keep calm. The inner balance is essential to spiritual progress. Harmonious living is more important than doing deeds of service. If in the midst of your daily work, your mind is agitated even for a brief moment, stop immediately! Withdraw into silence and try to regain the inner calm. It is your richest treasure. |

YOU ARE A PART OF WHOLE |
Current civilization, built as it is in the exploitation of the poor, is already crumbling beneath the burden of its own weight. A new civilization is to be born. It will be built not in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, not in the Senates and Parliaments of the world. It will be built by men and women of character. What can parchments of parliaments and laws of assemblies do? Wanted are men and women of sympathy and understanding, of vision and love of self-control and self-effacement, men and women who have not merely national consciousness but cosmic consciousness, whole consciousness, who see the whole as one, who behold the unity of all life. They will rise above all barriers of color, creed and country. Unto them will be given the power to build a new civilization. Hence, the need for education of a new type, a character-building education which may train students to be servants of India and suffering humanity. |
