Meaning : This is another famous kriti of Sri Annamaachaarya. This krithi was being sung by most of the carnatic musicians. This tells about the greatness of the Feet of the Lord. According to the Hindu mythologies, the Feet of the Lord has been worshipped in many occasions. Every devotee would like to take solace at the Feet of the Lord. Even Hanuman, the greatest devotee of Lord Rama, requested the Lord to give him a small place at the Feet of the Lord; this is to express his humility, Hanuman requested so. But the Lord recognizing his devotion and services rendered, gave place in his Heart itself. Sri Annamaacharya praises the greatness of the Feet of the Lord by relating to various events narrated in the mythologies. |
Pallavi: This is the same Feet which was worshipped by Brahma, the creator. And the Feet represents the Brahmam itself. (Brahma is different from Brahmam. Brahmam refers to the Supreme Lord of the Universe, while Brahma is described as one of the trio, Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswara: In fact the trio are the three different forms of the Supreme Lord.) |
Charanam 1: This was the Feet worshipped by the Goddess of the soil (Bhoodevi). This same Feet was kept on the head of the demon Bali, and the same Feet touched the Sky and this is the same Feet that gave salvation to the demon king Bali. (This describes the incarnation of Lord Vishnu in the form of Vaamana). |
Charanam 2: In the incarnation of the Lord as Rama, at the touch of the Feet, a stone was turned into a beautiful lady; in the incarnation as Krishna, the same Feet danced on the head of the ferocious serpent called Kaleeya; Goddess Lakshmi always presses His Feet with lot of love and respect and this is the same Feet with which He climbed the horse in the Kalki Avataar. |
Charanam 3: It is the Feet that gives revelations and blessing to saints and seers in many ways. For this entire world in this Kaliyuga, it is the same Feet which is the permanent abode of peace and solace in the form of Thirumala. This is why probably the Lord Venkateswara shows one of his hands towards his feet, meaning `Come unto my Feet’. |
