The word ‘Simhendramadhyama’ means ‘the waist of the king of lions’ that is supposed to be beautiful. This is a Melakartrha Ragam.

This keerthana is one of the masterpieces of Sri Thyagaraja Swami, which shows his complete surrender to Lord Rama, wherein he admits tha there is no one else other than Him to relieve him from his sinful life.  A sasit like Thyagaraja Swamy himself confessed that he anchored to the Lotus feet of Rama to extricate himself from his sins; how about us?

Meaning

Pallavi: “I believe that Your feet are the only saviours of me, Rama!” (that is to say I am surrendering to you)

Anupallavi :  “Supreme Lord of the universe, Who is supposed to be revealed through the Vedas and Upanishad, Rama!”

Charanam  : “This body is the result of sinful deeds (of the previous birth) and I cannot suffer any longer in this.  Please save me in any manner and from this body, Rama!”
