Shree Shree Anandamayee Mata - A Naga Ratna

Sri Anandamayee Ma-Joy permeated Mother (her original name was Nirmala Sundari Devi) was born in Kheora in Tripura district in East Bengal (now Bangladesh) in 1896 on April 30th in the early hours of Friday, 1hr 12 min before dawn. Her father, Bipin Bihari Bhattacharya and mother Smt. Mokshada Sundari Devi were very kind and had loving nature. Their devotion to god, simplicity and their standard of social life were almost ideal. Her father was a descendant of the well-known Kashyapa Brahmin family of village Vidyakut located in the same district. There were many learned pandit’s and devotees in the family.

At an early age of 12 years, Mother was married to Sri Ramani Mohan Chakravarty hailing from the village Atpara of Vikrampur. He belonged to well-known Bharadwaj Brahmin family of that village. It was a celibate marriage though not by her husband’s choice. Later, he took (initiation from her) religious vows of chastity and accepted Anandamayi Ma as his guru. He dedicated most of his life to the welfare of the people. Afterwards, he was known as Baba Bholanath, Rama Pagla or "Pitaji’.

Mother spent her early life quiet unnoticed in the villages Kheora and Sultanpur. After her marriage Mother passed some time in Sreepur and Narundi, where her husband and his elder brother worked. .After the death of her brother-in-law, Mother (at the age of 18) went to live with her husband at Atpara, where she met a young man named "Ganga Charan Dasgupta" who was quite impressed by her, in person, who called her "Mother" and envisaged that one day the entire world would address her in that way. Before she came to Dhaka she stayed there for three years at Vidyakut and about six years at Bijatput along with her husband.
