Affectation is a striving after or an attempt to assume, what is not natural or real. It is pretence. |
||
|
Affectation is to make a show or pretence of, to assume, to counterfeit, or pretend to. |
||
|
Affectation is a studied or ostentatious pretence. It is artificial, false or shallow display. It is artificiality of manner or behavior. |
||
|
Affectation is an attempt to assume or exhibit what is not natural or real. It is false pretence, artificial appearance or show. |
||
|
Affectation proceeds either from vanity or hypocrisy. Vanity puts on false characters to gain applause. Hypocrisy conceals vices under the appearance of their opposite virtues, in order to avoid censure. |
||
|
Affectation proceeds from the supposition of possessing something better than what the rest of the world possesses. |
||
